Overview of Psychedelic Art
The Psychedelic (mind manifesting) art movement refers to the art movement of the late 1960's counterculture. Psychedelic art is a counterpart to Psychedelic rock music.
Characteristics: Surrealistic subject matter, morphing objects, highly contrasting colors, extreme depth, spirals

Timeline: Psychedelic art was inspired by the Dada, Surrealism, and Abstract Expression movements. After the Psychedelic movement came the Postmodernism and Sensationalism movements.

Influences: The art style was greatly influenced by the use of hallucinatory drugs. The end of WWII brought a "boom" in the U.S. This caused a giant spike in babies born and by the 60's the babies were young adults.These baby boomers started the hippy movement that caused the Psychedelic movement.
